Chemical Potential Table Form
This table provides a set of numerical information associated with a single vertex point (left hand side) or multiple vertex points (right hand side).
- Listed information
The thermodynamic space consists of temperature, pressure and elemental chemical potential. The thermodynamic properties of one species / compound can be represented using those space variables as follows;
μ(AaBbCc)/kT = - s/k + h/kT
+ a μ(A)/kT
+ b μ(B)/kT
+ c μ(C)/kT
The left hand variable is the so called chemical potential of species/compound. Strictly speaking, this is the chemical potential divided by kT. The first and the second gterms of the right hand side are the entropy and the enthalpy terms. The elemental chemical potentials, μ(A), μ(B), μ(C) are also divided by kT to obtain the space variables. Thus, the chemical potential information of one species/compound can be characterized in terms of h/k, a, b, c as the coefficients corresponding to the space variables and constnat value of (- s/k).
At respective points in the thermodynamic space, the chemical potential value of any compound can be evaluated. Since it is common to define the reference state for any compound, it therefore becomes easy to evaluate the activity of the spacies/compound at that point as follows;
ln a(AcBbCc) = μ(AaBbCc)/kT -
μ°(AaBbCc)/kT
Here μ°(AaBbCc) is the chemical potential value for the reference state of the compound and a is the thermodynamic activity of the compound at the point.
The seleted terms among the following items are lsited in the table.
- Space Values:
Space values are modified to those used in input. That is, temperature is expressed by temperature instead of inverse temperature, and pressure is also expressed in the unit of atm. The elemental chemical potenial is expressed as μ(A)/kT.
- Coordinates values:
This is calculated from the space values.
- Display point:
This is dependnt on the Disaply panel size.
- log activity:
ln a(AcBbCc)/2.303 is adopted.
- concentration:
This is for the mixture phase. When the mixture exists as the stable phase at the thermodynamic space, this provides the actual concentration. When this is not the stable state, the concetration values should be virtual and the summation of all constituents of the mixture will not be equalt to unity.
- space coefficients:
This is also for the mixture phase. The partial entropy, the partial enthalpy and the composition of respective elements will be given as the string value in which commma is used as delimitor.
