To Details
- In the La-Mn-O system, 8 phases appear at 1273 K; namely, Mn, MnO,
Mn3O4, Mn2O3, MO2, La,
La2O3, and LaMnO3.
- In the Mn-O subsystem, four manganese oxides are arranged sequentially.
The borderlines between those oxides are parallel because the respective lines have
constant oxygen potentials. The oxygen potentials are related to the equilibrium
oxygen potential for the following reactions;
MnO = Mn + 0.5 O2(g)
Mn3O4 = 3MnO + 0.5 O2(g)
3Mn2O3 = 2Mn3O4 + 0.5 O2(g)
2MnO2 = Mn2O3 + 0.5 O2(g)
- The stability region of LaMnO3 appears between the manganese oxides and
the lanthanum oxide. The three phase point of MnO, La2O3, and
LaMnO3 indicates the following reaction;
LaMnO3 = 0.5 La2O3 + MnO + 0.25 O2(g)
- The three phase point of MnO2, La2O3 and
LaMnO3 indicates the following reaction;
LaMnO3 + 0.25O2(g) =0.5 La2O3 + MnO2
- The stable oxygen potential region of LaMnO3 is given from the above
reducing and oxidizing equilibrium oxygen potentials.
